Go TeamsAirdrie GO TeamIn 142 AD the Romans made a final attempt to subdue the wild Scots of the North. They reached about as far as Airdrie and stayed a short while before retreating to friendlier territory behind the Scot-proof Hadrian's Wall.
On Friday 13th April Airdrie suffered its worst invasion since the Romans all those years ago. Eight eager young sons and daughters of Ulster arrived under the banner of Airdrie GO Team! It is a great tribute to the hospitality of the people of Airdrie that they not only put up with us, but managed to put us to good use. That use was the task of delivering copies of the "Airdrie Word Today" to 5000 homes across the town. (The Airdrie Word Today is a biannual magazine produced by Airdrie Reformed Presbyterian Church aiming to promote the word of God among people who might otherwise rarely be exposed to it. Articles include testimonies, information about the Reformed Presbyterian Church and topical issues.) Together with many enthusiastic members of Airdrie church (young and old[er]), with God's grace (especially regarding the weather), this goal was achieved on the Saturday. Sore feet and dog-o-phobia were the only major complaints.
On the Saturday evening several members of the team made a well-intentioned, if fruitless, attempt to blend in with their surroundings by eating haggis, drinking Irn Bru and talking "Scotch" - much to the amusement of the locals. Thanks for such a tremendous experience must go to Andrew Quigley, the members of Airdrie Reformed Presbyterian Church (especially in the "young yins"), Beth Bogue and unofficial team member Chris Somerville. Please remember to pray for Airdrie church and the work they are doing for the Lord in that part of Scotland. "With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling and by his power he may fulfil every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith." 2 Thessalonians 1 v 11 Matthew Jess and Andrew Currie
