Constitution

The College is under the control of Synod. A Board of Examiners consisting of six ministers is appointed annually by Synod. This Board together with the Faculty forms the Committee of Superintendence.

Revenue is derived from a collection taken annually in all the congregations of the Church, supplemented by donations, bequests and endowments and by fees paid by students.

The Course normally consists of three Sessions. The duration of each is determined by the Committee and approved by Synod.

Each Session is formally opened on the First Tuesday of October by a public lecture delivered by members of the Faculty in turn, and closed on the second or third Thursday of April by a public lecture given by the Moderator of Synod.

The Professor of Systematic Theology is responsible for teaching the distinctive principles of the Reformed Presbyterian Church, and the Professor of Pastoral Theology a course of lectures on Covenanting History.

Members of the Faculty are appointed by Synod. The appointment is made from ministers or licentiates of the Church whose godly character and academic qualifications are considered satisfactory. On appointment, and at the beginning of each Session, members of Faculty sign a declaration to perform faithfully the duties of the Chair, and to teach, maintain and defend the standards and principles of the Covenanting Church – a Church pledged to the theology of the Westminster Confession of Faith.

In addition to formal lectures, the Faculty assigns Class essays, appoints text-books, and arranges the time-table for lectures.

The members of the College Faculty may, with the approval of the Committee of Superintendence, prescribe additional studies as deemed necessary.

Students while attending the College are required to devote two months annually to practical training in Church or Mission work. This course is arranged by the Professor of Pastoral Theology, approved by the Committee of Superintendence, and directed by a Presbytery.
