A little child is utterly dependant on their parents. They don't worry and trust their parents. This has much to teach us how to live as children of God.
1. The widow receives trouble
2. The prophet reacts to trouble
3. The Lord relieves trouble

There is pressure on many ministers from their elders to introduce contemporary worship. Their reason; to keep the people happy, not based on what God requires. Jeroboam fell into the same trap after having saved his kingdom.
1. Jeroboam decided to tamper with the worship of God
2. Jeroboam persuaded the people to tamper with the worship of God
3. Jeroboam led the people to tamper with the worship of God

Light attracts. There are many great lights in the world - the sun, the moon and the stars but the greatest light of all is Christ. When you become a christian His light dispells the darkness in our lives and then we become the light of the world. But mission didn't start with Christ and it was clearly a responsibility of God's people in the old testament. The missionary vision and practise is demonstrated by King Solomon -
1. The missionary vision that Solomon had
2. The company Solomon received
3. We live in a world of amazing choice, whether it be a car or a plane. In religion it's the same - on one hand there is the supermarket church with its glitzy metting place and 'modern' worship. On the other there is the corner shop church which has remained faithful to God. It's the same with gods - there are many to choose from and an idea is being spread about that they are all equally valid. But the bible teaches otherwise - that there is one God and He tolerates no rivals. God is intolerant when it comes to idols which is why our so called 'tolerant' soceity hates God. Solomon when he leads his people knows nothing of this - God has no parallel.
1. God keeps His promises
2. God listens to our prayers
3. Paul in writing to Timothy reminded him that all of scripture is God breathed. This is also true of 1 Kings 5 which deals with the preparations for a great building project. In studying it we must remember that Christ is in all of scripture. Solomon is a type of Christ and parallels can be drawn with Christ and Him building His church.
1. Temple preparation is in fulfilment of promise.
2. Temple preparation anticipates God's kingdom
3. Temple preparation exhibits God's wisdom

Many countries are concerned about national security - both internal and external. Internal security consists of arresting known terrorists and walking uprightly in the fear of God. Sadly there is little evidence of the latter in many governments. Solomon's kingdom however was different as he sought to secure it.
1. Security established through submission to kingdom laws
2. Security established through government with justice
